Hatchet 3 (2013): excellent?
Wiki Article
Hatchet 3 was the film that was a horror in the Hatchet trilogy. It chronicles the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley and his murderous rampage through Honey Island Swamp in Louisiana. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt is Misty.
Its practical special effects are the film's greatest strength. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects as well as sets. This is a departure from the majority of horror films today that rely heavily upon CG effects. The film also has several truly terrifying moments.
Kane Hodder is a standout among the cast, and he's an intimidating villain. The dialogue is a bit snarky and witty to (click now to view article) feel like a true '80s slasher movie at times. Additionally, there are some really funny moments throughout that offer humor against the horror-inducing action.
Unfortunately, due to the limited budget (reportedly just $1 million) most locations used are re-used from earlier films in the series. The identical boat house was featured twice in the film and much of it feels like it's been recycled from other films in this franchise. It can feel almost familiar to viewers who have watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2.
Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous installments in the series. It also provided lots of bloody thrills as well as entertaining performances from its cast members.
